Your Guide to Getting a Refund from UberEats

Ordering food through Uber Eats may be simple but things don't always go as planned—sometimes things are missing, damaged, they can take forever or even worse, the driver is a no show. This would piss of the best of us and that is why we feel inclined to request a refund.  Because let's be honest, who wants to pay for someone else's screw up.

These are the top ways to get a refund on your order.  NOTE:  It is not in the business' best interest to give you a refund because they lose money.  So we'll give you an alternative option at the end.

But start with these steps so you don't end up like poor Josh, took this guy almost 3 days and all the pains in the rear to get a refund.

1. Using the Uber Eats App to submit a refund request

This is the most straightforward way to request a refund.  You go straight to the source, UberEats.  This is also Uber Eat's recommended way of submitting a request.  (Mostly because they don't have a number to call -- pssstt, this would cost more money)

1. Open the UberEats App: Navigate to the "Orders" section where you’ll see a list of your recent orders.

2. Select the Problematic Order: Tap on the order that had issues.

3. Choose “Help” or “Issue with Order”: You'll be presented with options to specify what went wrong—whether it’s a missing item, incorrect order, or poor food quality.

This will start the automated chat sequence that decides your fate.

4. Provide Details:  OK, STOP HERE, because these next steps are the most important to assure you can get a refund!!!

  • Understand that refunds will come in the form of a credit (you will NOT get money back), if you're good with that go to the next step.  If not, jump to the bottom of the list to get 100% cash refund.  Additionally if you have submitted a refund request in the last 5 orders, this will likely not work.

  • Clearly describe the issue - Be specific about exactly which items are missing, damaged, or are incorrect.  if the entire order is the wrong order, jump to "If you got someone else's order".  DO NOT spend time on what was correct.  Focus only on what was incorrect.

For example:  You ordered a burger, fries & a drink and a chicken sandwich.  Your order comes damaged and missing items.  Your request description should look like this.....

"Order missing fries.  Drink damaged."  -- then show a picture of the complete order in the container as it was delivered, make sure the receipt is showing.  Then a specific picture of the damaged drink.

5. Submit Your Request: After completing the form, submit your request. UberEats typically reviews these claims within a few hours to a few days.

While this method is generally effective however there are a few reasons this option fails. UberEats may deny refunds if they believe the complaint isn't justified, if a recent request has been made & fulfilled (this is to mitigate fraud) or if there’s insufficient evidence of the issue.

FYI:  Tons of places tell you to be persistent!  Ok, so let's be honest, persistence doesn't work in an automated system.  Since your complaint is directly tied to the order, if you say there is a problem you are tying it to the order.  That opens a ticket for the support agent (if it's assigned).  When the support agent closes that ticket, it's not something you can re-open without selecting a different reason for the issue.

If you select a different issue but utilize the same explanation or evidence they now have a valid reason to invalidate the refund claim/request.  See the problem here?

WAIT....don't get too worried, you still have additional options.

2. Call the Uber Eats Support Number

If you see that there's an support number, it's WRONG.  That is the merchant support line for restaurants/businesses who partner with Uber Eats to get food delivered.  If you call that number they will request you business delivery ID or they will inquire about your merchant ID.

The number many people find online is the old 800# - (800) 253-6882  which has since been removed for  the new merchant phone #.

3. Using Order Guard for a Hassle-Free Refund Experience

Order Guard is the only protection plan for food delivery. Dealing with going back and forth for something as simple as a refund isn't the experience you deserve. Honestly, you just never know what will happen, even when your claim is valid, you may still end up without a refund, leaving you out of pocket.

This is where Order Guard comes into play.

OrderGuard offers a protection plan that ensures you get your money back when your food delivery experience falls short. Here’s how it works:

  • Guaranteed Refunds:  With OrderGuard, you’re guaranteed a full refund, including taxes, tips, and delivery fees, if your order is incorrect, late, or unsatisfactory.

4. Other Tips for Getting a Refund

This is going to sound like a pain, because you should just be able to get your food, but document everything!

  • Document Everything: Take photos of incorrect or damaged items as soon as you receive your order. This evidence can be crucial in securing a refund.

  • Act Quickly:  If there’s an issue with your order, report it as soon as possible. The faster you act, the better your chances of a successful refund.

  • Larger Order - Call Ahead: It may sound a bit weird to say call ahead, but the restaurant wants your experience to be great.  If you have a larger order give them a heads up and you'll have them to support your issues as well.  In our experience the restaurant has been more than willing to accommodate.

A customer shared this great story with us, we'll call her Lucy (for privacy).

Lucy was ordering for her kids birthday party -- 12 pizzas, bread sticks, a desert pizza & some wings -- from a local pizzeria.  She decided since she was subscribed to the service, why not have it delivered.  They'd be able to lug the stuff and keep things piping hot.  But our Lucy, oh was she a smart cookie.  She called ahead & explained that she would be putting in the order around an hour before the party, and would that be enough time.  The manager asked her to hold on and then came back, requested the time of the party.  After a few muffled words to the staff, he said, "ok, we'll see you at noon for the party."  Shocked, Lucy said she didn't know they had delivery service.   The manager said, "we don't but when we have a special birthday within our community & such a large order, we figure it out."  Even better, they threw in the desert pizza and wings.

All in all...

Getting a refund from UberEats can be a straightforward process if you follow the right steps, but it’s not always guaranteed. By using Order Guard, you can protect yourself from the common pitfalls of online food delivery services and ensure you’re never left out of pocket. Whether you’re dealing with a missing item, late delivery, or unsatisfactory food, Order Guard provides the peace of mind that UberEats sometimes cannot.
